How The Fault in Our Stars Changed Me

Bought this book at a supermarket, oddly enough. Honestly, not my kind of literature, felt more like I was reading a Tumblr fanfic. Probably why the fanbase comes from those dark corners of the internet. But I read it anyway to satisfy my curiosity since I kept seeing memes on Facebook. To be real, I don’t think I learned anything from it. Just that writing for this crowd is pretty easy. Also, Gus’s cigarette metaphor hits pretty hard if you just replace the cigarette with the human condition of mortality. Aside from that, could’ve passed on it—no big deal. Weirdly made me popular with girls in school, but I think it was more because they thought I was gay.

> girl with cancer meets boy with cancer, both are way too smart for their age
> they bond over books, specifically one that never tells them what happens next
> fall in love, talk about their fears, the universe, and death. Edgy teen stuff
> cancer eventually wins, because of course it does
> there’s a lot of crying, but also some cute moments
> it’s mostly about learning to live while knowing you’re dying
